Position Summary

Many Minnesotans do not have access to the resources they need to make their homes more energy efficient. Help us change this by offering your time and talent as a Home Energy Corps member. 

As a Home Energy Corps member, you’ll provide education and services to encourage energy efficiency and the use of solar energy. With great training and opportunities to shadow technicians, we’ll prepare you to connect with homeowners and renters to help them make decisions about energy assistance programs and energy saving materials. 

We are currently recruiting for the 2021-22 program year with opportunities beginning in September, November and January. Your commitment to the Home Energy Corps will be 40 hours per week.  

This is an AmeriCorps member position. You will join an amazing group of members, determined to help our communities.


Perks Package

Home Energy Corps Members receive a perks package that includes:

  • A stipend of $1,100 paid every 2 weeks
    • $20,900 total for 1,350 hours of service starting in November 2021
    • $17,600 total for 1,200 hours of service starting in January 2022
  • Up to $4,441 for tuition or student loans*
  • Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment
  • Individual health insurance — Monthly premium 100% covered
  • Child care assistance — Based on family size and income

*The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award can be used to pay tuition or repay qualified student loans. Individuals 55+ may gift their award to their child, grandchild, foster child or step-child.


What it Takes

 

Great members come from all walks of life. No matter your experience and background, the most important qualification is a desire to serve your community. That said, you also need to meet the following minimum qualifications by the time you begin your service. 

  • 18 years of age or older two weeks before the start date
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States*
  • Agree to and successfully complete a background check

*Applicants who have received deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are not eligible to serve as AmeriCorps members at this time.
